Review: Moriarty the Patriot, Vol. 3 by Ryōsuke Takeuchi (Spoiler-Free)

This has been my least favorite of the series so far, but it's still Sherlock and Moriarty, so how bad could it be?

The first half of this volume is a retelling of A Study in Scarlet, which was fun, but ultimately a bit flat compared to the complexity of the real thing (and yes, by the real thing I mean the BBC Sherlock version 'A Study in Pink', but you know what I bet the actual book is more complex too). It was fun to see the similarities between the mysteries, but not completely satisfying.

The second half of this volume is a retelling of The Hound of the Baskervilles, though through the lens of Moriarty. Again, my only frame of reference is the BBC Sherlock version, so I don't know how accurate this one is to the book but... OH MY LORD IT IS SICKENING. I didn't realize this series was going to involve graphic child mutilation but here we are! That being said, this arc was a lot more fleshed out in terms of character work and theme, and I enjoyed seeing Louis' character develop.

While I wasn't head over heels for this volume like the last one, I'm excited to continue and see where the series goes!
