Review: Dash & Lily's Book of Dares by David Levithan & Rachel Cohn (Spoiler-Free)

★★★★-4

This is the perfect Christmas read for anyone who just wants a fun time! While I can acknowledge that it is completely and totally outrageous and unrealistic... isn't that the point? The whole book just feels like:

“Luckily, I always travel with a book, just in case I have to wait on line for Santa, or some such inconvenience.” - David Levithan (Dash & Lily's Book of Dares) “I love snow for the same reason I love Christmas: It brings people together while time stands still. Cozy couples lazily meandered the streets and children trudged sleds and chased snowballs. No one seemed to be in a rush to experience anything other than the glory of the day, with each other, whenever and however it happened.” - Rachel Cohn (Dash & Lily's Book of Dares) From the synopsis alone, readers know that they're getting into a book with the classic "missing-parents syndrome." So, this is one of the only stories where that didn't bother me. Also, it's Christmas, so anything crazy can happen, and I think that's what the authors were trying to get at with this book. I loved the characters of Dash and Lily so much, and just overall had a great time with this quick read!

Song I was reminded of while reading: All I Want for Christmas is You
